Imagine if a computer could make a trumpet sound like a barking dog or turn a piano tune into someone singing. That’s exactly what Nvidia’s new AI tool, Fugatto, can do. It’s made for people who create music, movies, and video games.
Fugatto uses simple instructions—like typing “make a cheerful song with birds chirping”—to create music or sound effects. It can also edit sounds that already exist. For example, it can change how a voice sounds, like adding a new accent or making it more emotional.
Bryan Catanzaro, a leader at Nvidia, says this AI is a big step forward. “AI already helps people make music with computers. This tool makes creating sounds even easier and more exciting,” he said.
But there’s a problem: not everyone is happy about AI like this. Recently, actress Scarlett Johansson said another company used AI to copy her voice. Nvidia says Fugatto was trained using free, public data. They haven’t decided if or when regular people can use it.
Nvidia and other companies, like OpenAI and Meta, are being careful. This kind of AI can do amazing things but can also be misused. For example, someone could use it to spread fake news or copy someone’s work without permission. That’s why Nvidia isn’t rushing to release Fugatto just yet.
